Years after the comb binding machines were invented, businesses started looking for a better and faster way of binding. The old comb binding machines were slow, laborious and difficult to file. As a response, thermal binding was invented and made an immediate impact.

The thermal binders look much more modern than the old comb binders. They also look more like a book, and as such are easier to carry and to file. Plus they are so easy to use! You simply place a document into a one piece binding cover, place the cover in the machine and wait a minute till the cycle is finished. Then take the document out and let it cool before opening.

The disadvantage of the original thermal binders was that the glue that held the pages in was not very strong. Plus the glue did not allow you to edit pages as the glue tended to come out when you took the pages out.

However, now better glue technology is available that holds the pages more securely in the cover. Although covers are available to bind up to 200 pages, I would recommend that you do not try to bind more than 100 pages in a cover.

The glue used now is much more flexible and allows you to edit pages from a document that is already bound. All you do is to place the bound document back in the binding machine and after a minute when the cycle is complete, take out the pages you want to change and insert the new pages. Then wait till document cools before opening.

The advantages of the new thermal binding machines are that they are so simple to use, allowing anyone to bind a document; they use a one piece cover that is inexpensive; and they now allow you to easily add and delete pages as necessary.
